Native American institute

The Native American Institute (NAI) works to ensure MSU upholds its promise as described in our land acknowledgment and understood through our land-grant mission. To these ends, NAI builds programming and supports research that promotes tribal sovereignty, self-determination, traditional knowledge, capacity building, leadership and well-being as defined by tribes, American Indian communities and Native organizations across the Great Lakes Region.

American Indian and Indigenous Studies

American Indian and Indigenous Studies (AIIS) is an academic program that offers an undergraduate minor, a graduate certificate, and brings together faculty who engage in Indigenous studies. Through offering courses, working groups, and lecture series, AIIS promotes the pursuit of knowledge that centers the histories, cultures, languages, and contemporary experiences of Indigenous peoples.

indigenous Law and policy Center

The Indigenous Law and Policy Center (ILPC) at Michigan State University College of Law educates law students and trains lawyers to work on behalf of Indigenous peoples and the tribal nations of the United States

Tribal Extension

MSU’s Tribal Extension partners with Michigan’s tribal nations, communities, and land-grant institutions to co-create educational programs and research that respects tribal sovereignty and Indigenous knowledge, strengthens self-determined community food systems, youth leadership, governance, and wellness, and builds long-term respectful relationships between tribal partners and the university.
